A week ago today my local party had our Annual Dinner in Woking. It was a very pleasant evening with a great guest speaker, Dr Evan Harris, who came along and talked to us about his work on the NHS and gave a very entertaining speech.
It was the first time in ages that we had had such a great speaker and a good time was had by all. What I could well have done without though was the minor drama that happened as I was showing Evan and Prateek out of the venue. Walking down the stairs of the HG Wells Centre I somehow managed to slip on the metal stair runners not once but three times and nearly fell down the stairs. Only the bannister saved me from landing unceremoniously on my backside but I took a hefty wallop to my legs. The following day I watched as a series of bruises started to grown on my shins and knees. They are currently all the colours of the rainbow a week later.
Frankly I didnt know what to do with myself. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me up that much is clear. I don’t think I have ever been as embarassed about something in my entire life. It just goes to show the power that a good LibDem speaker can have on your Annual Dinner! I wonder how many other activists have fallen for their after dinner speaker in such a dramatic way?
Or perhaps it was the charm and wit of Evan Harris that Nadine Dorries finds so attractive on a daily basis that she feels she has to blog or talk about him so much. I am yet to decide.
